RESPONSIBLE SOURCING AND SUPPLY
Our purchasing practices focus on quality products and partners who respect the environment. The wholesalers we use are committed to environmental sustainability strategies. For wholesale orders, we favour domestic products for quality, but also for environmental reasons and to avoid long transport distances.
We choose to buy products that are more sustainable for nature's carrying capacity and produced nearby. We also buy responsibly harvested local berries and mushrooms, and local fish. The service providers used by the company are local. Our café-restaurant sells products from a range of local producers. Local products are regularly supplied to us by, for example, Kakra, an oatmeal bakery. Other local products on sale include sweets, beers, honey products, herbs and spices, and various handicrafts.
The company's property is renovated and maintained using high-quality, durable products and, where possible, locally produced building materials. Suppliers are local professionals with a focus on quality. Properly done work saves environmental impact, both in the procurement of raw materials and in the generation of waste.
RESPONSIBLE FOOD
Our company focuses on special diets and the growing demand for vegetarian food. We offer a vegetarian option at lunch every day. A dairy-free option is also available daily. We prepare all dishes containing dairy products from lactose-free products. The majority of the portion and lunch dishes we serve are gluten-free, as are our party platters. You can also choose between gluten-free and vegan options for the fast food we sell.
Our café menu offers a range of gluten-free options. Our line also caters for vegetarians and vegan products are also available. We listen to our customers' specific requests for different allergens and prepare dishes according to their wishes.
In our lunch line, we focus on an attractive, generous salad bar and high-quality hot vegetables. In this way, we enable customers to choose more vegetables in their portions and reduce their intake of meat products. Our daily lunch options
include a vegetarian dish, either as a main course, in a soup or as an alternative to a portion. We avoid the use of endangered species.
SOCIAL WELFARE AND RESPONSIBLE EMPLOYMENT
The King's Gate supports local entrepreneurs in developing and selling sustainable products and services based on the region's nature, history and culture. We offer internships to local students and several of our interns have also become employees.
We comply with the Equality Act and oppose all forms of harassment and discrimination. If we see situations of abuse or harassment among our customers, we will address them in accordance with the guidelines. We welcome all types of client groups. We have a special focus on children and have accessible facilities. Our staff also serves clients in English.
We follow the collective agreement for the tourism and catering sector. Our employees have a safe working environment, their rights are respected and our working atmosphere is highly praised. We encourage our employees to learn new things and gain experience in new areas. We train our staff regularly.
ENERGY, WATER AND CLIMATE
We have reduced energy consumption by using timed air conditioning and by keeping energy-intensive equipment on for only the time needed. It is our practice to turn on energy-consuming equipment only when it is needed, for example when the lofts are in use. The air conditioning is on a timer and is not on at night, for example.
We have water-saving water points in toilets, for example. We have a policy of washing only full machines with dishwashers and washing machines. We also reduce water consumption by instructing customers to reduce the use of trays.
We will pay attention to reducing the amount of waste in order to reduce overall consumption. To reduce waste, orders are carefully planned. Best-before dates are monitored daily and, where necessary, products are sold in advance at a discount. Our waste is carefully sorted. Food waste is recycled and transformed into My Diesel, for example. Cardboard boxes are collected separately and are used to make new cardboard boxes. Empty cans and bottles are also returned. We also sort metal, glass, batteries and paper separately.
